Spark Plug Difference 78 vs 82

    Model E150GLEOM
I used the .PDF spark plug chart on this site to reference plugs for my motor and found them to be the QL78YC, I bought 6 and now find that the computer at the dealer turns up # QL82YC. Which is correct and is there a heat range difference betweent the two?

    G (6 QL78YC's for sale maybe....10 minutes use on 'em...dOH )

Re: Spark Plug Difference 78 vs 82 (Graembo)

Tell your dealer to look in the latest Genuine Parts and Accessories Catalog for the official factory plug recommendations. It is QL78YC.

The '82s were initially recommended back in '95 or so, but the factory changed to '78s so all looper motors 40hp and up used the same plug.

Just don't ask Rusty63 which plugs to put in. He'll tell you to use (deleted by Rusty63).

For those of you with motors 1998 and later, the spark plug recommendation and the gap is printed on the silver EPA sticker near your serial number plate.

Thanks for the replys. Will it hurt to run with the 82's? is there a source that lists the difference in construction between the two?
Scenario: Was the engine built to run on the 82's then OMC changed the spec to 78's to make things "easier" for them/dealers/books ??
