    Older Legend

Posted this in the General section and was advised to put it here for more exposure:

I talked to a guy yesterday that has a '03 Legend to sell. The price he quoted me was really, really good. (Almost too good; I'll be checking this out thoroughly) Anyway, I thought I had read that there were some problems with the early Legend boats and got to wondering if anyone knows if that year boat has any wood in it? Are there any other problems that I should be aware of? He said he bought it new and had taken it out 1 time and it's just sat since then. It's got a 250 Merc on it so I presume it's a 20-21 footer. I didn't have a lot of time to talk to him about it but I got his phone # and will be calling him to see about going to check it out.

99% sure this won't be the same Legend. There was another Legend boat builder out of Alabama I believe. The Legend boats here weren't out on the market in that size till 2005.

First Legend was built in 2003 and I haven't herd any problems with the earlier models.

    Additional info on Legend

OK, I drove the 1 1/2 hour to check this boat out. The guy was telling the truth. It's just been sitting there going to pot. This is a Legend Dominator 202 by Clecker Craft. Haven't been able to find out a lot of information about this manufacturer. I have discovered though that there's been enough boat companies named Legend that is looks like all the information is getting twisted and wrapped around. One forum entry I read stated that the Dominator 202 was based on a Bullet XD Splash hull mold.

The boat is not in bad shape, just dirty. The carpet needs replacing and the it'll need new seating all the way around. There's also some sort of critter's bed and refuge in one of the storage compartments in the front. Wiring and fuel lines, etc looks OK in the rear. It's got a Humminbird 190c fishfinder up front as well as a Motorguide Brute 767.

The trailer has one fender messed up but it can be bent back out. I forgot to check and see if there are brakes on the trailer.

Can anyone tell me anything about the Mercury Pro XB 250 that's on the boat? I've never heard of this model.

Anyway pics of it are here: 2003 Legend Dominator 202 pictures by MikeA57 - Photobucket

If anyone can shed anymore light on this boat please let me know.

    Thanks!

    Mike

    Mike,
There are far too many boats on the market that are in much better condition. To me, even if this boat was free, it would be hard to begin on fixing what needs to be worked on just looking at what we can see and know is wrong. The lower unit buried in the mud, the interior work, you name it. I think that you'd be too much time and effort into this one....
