Does it put me in harms way?

Boat or vehicle?
Sounds like my credit union, I would deal directly with the credit union if I were you just to make sure it's legit.

Sounds like a load of crap to me. They can get a NADA value from year, make and model. I wouldn't give them to anyone unless they had money in their hands.
Never have heard of that. I thought they just looked up the value in NADA books or something like that.
I would call his Credit Union directly and ask about it. Then fax it if it's legit.
Giving somebody a copy of my title would make me nervous.
Give a man a fish, he will eat for a day
Teach a man to fish, he will complain that you stole his fishing spot.
Said they want front and back. This is for a boat and buyer is 4 hrs away.

It's very common. Faxing copies of your title doesn't put you in any sort of jeopardy.
A phone call to the credit union to verify wouldn't be out of line, but it won't hurt anything to fax it to them.
They probably check it to make sure it isn't salvaged as well.

Pretty sure when I bought my boat my credit union wanted copies also before they would draft the check. I told they guy he could either fax me a copy or I provided him with the credit union fax and point of contact. The guy trusted me and just sent me a copy which I faxed to my credit union.
I am with USAA credit union btw. If it is on the up and up...he should have no problem just providing you with his credit union info and the loan rep / bank person he is dealing with.
I went through the same thing two years ago with USAA and the seller didn't want to deal with it so I went to the next boat. Don't know why they wanted it but they weren't going to write a check without it. Call the loan rep and deal with them!![]()
They want copies of it to verify who is on the title. They aren't going to cut a check to me if the boat is made out in someone else's name.

^^^^ This.
"If people concentrated on the really important things in life, there'd be a shortage of fishing poles."
Making sure it's not a salvage title, no liens and the person getting the check is the person with the boat. Also, you'll probably have to send in the title once it's registered for them to hold.

^This...usually I have the buyer call his CU and ask them to call me before I fax to let me know they are legit. Most times I look at the CU's website as I talk to them.

I had to supply it for mine to the credit union
