    Re: (hizzah)

My 2005 F150 has 149,000 miles on it and I plan on driving it until it dies. I would love to have a new truck but I don't want a payment.

My wifes car has over 200,000 miles on it.

    Re: (R.D.)

We have a 2006 for five hundred that is paid off, and we plan on it being my daughters first car she's 3 and a half, and my 2010 f150 is going to be my son's first truck and he is 6 and a half month's old. I know this is a long way off, but if we take care of them and maintain them they will easily make it that long, especially since we only put about 10,000 miles a year on them.

Have 92K on my 08 2500HD (paid off in 08). I usually hold onto a vehicle for about 5-6 years or until mileage gets to around 150-190K and then trade. I calculate how much the payment is every month and put that aside for when it comes time to trade in. I just love messing with the salespersons mind when they ask "What are you looking at for a monthly payment?" I have found out that the older I get, the more I hate making payments.

    08 Equinox (wife's SUV) 90,000
    04 3/4 T. Silverado, 108,000
    93 Jeep Wrangler 268,000
    02 Lexus SC430 90,000

My daughter is 14 and will get the Equinox (if it lasts). The truck is paid for and no plans on getting rid of. The Wrangler is my commuter and the Lexus is the summer fun hardtop, V8 Convertible.

Re: How many keep vehicles this long? (Mike Daleo)

Paid off or not, it's going to be gone before it hits 150,000 miles

Usually at around 130,000 is when I start thinking about it, making preparations for a swap, and keeping an eye out for a deal.

130 to 150K seems to be the breaking point for me, which is about every 6 or 7 years.

I have a 2000 Ford Excursion with 190,000 miles, a 1999 Toyota Camry with 260,000 miles, and a Toyota Corolla with 160,000 miles.

Like my early 90's Ford Crown Victoria and Pontic Grand Prix before them, they will be driven until they are no longer worth repairing, and they will be replaced with vehicles that are at least 2 years old.

I never buy new vehicles. I let someone else eat the depreciation, and I drive them until they die.

169,000 miles - 2002 Dodge Grand Caravan Sport AWD

    263,000 miles - 1993 Chev K1500 Silverado

I'm not going out and check the odometer, but that what I remember being on them and not considering anything else yet.
