UL77V vs L16V on VRO equiped outboard?

Spark Plug chart lists these 2 numbers but a note says to use a QL plug. What do I use? Thanks for the help. Tim

Back in the mid '80s the original VRO did not have a warning system, so RFI from sparkplugs was not a problem. Since then, all replacement pumps are equipped with the NO OIL FLOW alarm, so " Q " style suppressor plugs are required.

Use QL77JC4's for best resullts or the super expensive long lasting, but poor idling QL16V sparkplugs.

Yes, from what I have been told, it is a crossflow.

I have the new OMS on my 1985 XP150 so, what problem does RFI from sparkplugs cause to the no oil flow alarm?

The radio frequency interference (RFI) can affect the logic chip inside the "VRO-OMS" alarm module, causing a false warning signal. The same thing can happen from a cracked coil or arcing plug wire. On some engines, the RFI if its strong enough, can put the motor into the SLOW mode without any warning.

By the way, Dofer, I like your list of "toys". Have you ever added up the total number of pistons that you own?

Re: UL77V vs L16V on VRO equiped outboard? (SEAHORSE)

Would that be the reason that I sometime get a false signal especially if I wash my engine under the cowl?

    32 cylinders to be exact
