    Starting problem

There seems to be a dead spot in my throttle when I try and start my engine. I have a 1997 Ranger 492vs with a 225hp Evinrude Vindicator. When I try and start the motor I have to wiggle the throttle handle to get it in just the right spot before the motor will start, does any one know how I can fix or adjust this problem.

Does it crank and not start (kill switch) or does it not crank at all (in gear starting protection).

The more details you give these guys, the faster they will get to the fix. And they will get to the fix.

It will start as long as the throttle is in the right position. If not you have to wiggle the throttle while holding the key and it will catch and start. It is not the kill switch (At least I don't think so) it seems like something is either worn or needs adjustment.

Sounds like the neutral safety switch in the control box.

Depending on who's box it is the switch May be adjustable.

You have to remove the throttle lever and then reach behind the gunale and move the box forward to access it. The box separates and there is a spring loaded switch in the shift roller. That is the one that needs to be replaced.
