mercury 175 proxs 2011 oil usage
Don my 2011 pro xs is burning around 40:1 oil, really disappointed in the oil usage. took it into service tech and he spoke ot Mercury. I do allot of under 1000 rpm searching for fish, thats just the nature of the beast. Mecury told him that the engine thinks it is under load at that rpm range and dumps oil to it, thus the high oil usage. my question since it is just idling around it is not really under load, there must be something it sensors to tell if it is under load? Is the pcm on the proxs that much different than the regular optimax? my friends optimaxs sip oil, they fish like I do, this thing is gulping the oil down. this is on a heavy wide ranger Reata 1850, running a 4 blade rev4 prop 15 pitch ( high alitude usage). thanks again....

1. Ensure engine is not still in BREAK-IN MODE. PCM provides additional oil to engine until the break-in clock expires.
2. Oil consumption SHOULD NOT BE VIEWED as a ratio. Your optimax engine requires the same lubrication (say for a fixed period of 10 minutes at 1000 RPM's) as any other traditional 2-stroke engine.
HOWEVER, since your Optimax is using CONSIDERABLY LESS FUEL... viewing the oil consumption as a RATIO will appear that it's using a ton of oil.
In reality- same oil consumption (but CONSIDERABLY less fuel).

thanks Don that makes sense when you put it that way. just used to thinking ratio gas/oil, yes the opti uses less gas than my old efi and about the same amount of oil, just like you said......
