My phone screwed up today so went to the phone place to see what they could do, which was nothing since I opted out of the insurance. Now I'm not due for an upgrade for 10 months. So I'm stuck buying a phone out right. My budget doesn't include $400 for a new phone from them. Do any of you guys and gals know of a good legit place to buy a out of date, refurbe phone for less than the phone box store??

i think i saw a few on the for sale boards here. was it a smart phone? what service carrier?

I recently dropped Verizon and picked up a Straight Talk LG Android phone and pay $45 per month unlimited everything. Wish they were around years ago. Very pleased.

check local craigs list.. used to buy / sell them all the time .. make sure it's for your carrier and what you want is an "unlocked" or "clean ESN" .. that means it's not tethered to an account and all you have to do is call your provider and do an ESN swap.

What about one of the pay as you go type phones, most major carriers have them in various types of phones.

There's no contract but you have to buy the phone.

My only advice there would be to ask to see an old bill associated with the phone. There are some scam artist out there also selling stolen or hacked phones.
Check with AT&T to see if they have refurbished phone for sale. My dad just got one from them.
Go to Wal-Mart and buy one of the AT&T go phones. Take it home and put your sim card in it. You will be good to go. Your contacts and everything will be on the phone if you have saved them to your sim. I did this when I was out of town and my phone got wet. I bought one of the cheep $20 dollar phones and used it for over a year. Good Luck.
In the thread looks like your contract with with AT&T. Assume you have a SIMM card on that Galaxy. There has to be a ton of "dumb" phones as I call them laying around. I may even have one here with a charger. If you want to go that route, you can probably get set up pretty cheap for the 10 remaining months. As far as getting a smart phone, craigslist, ebay, etc are probably your options.
