    Brushy Creek and Don Williams

. Well, I suck! After a good 4 or 5 year run I can honestly say this year is just kicking my arse. I've pretty much lost confidence in every thing I throw. This was not the weekend to feel that way . I struggled and struggled mightily. Prefishing on Brushy was just terrible. This is normally my FAVORITE lake without question. I went about 7 hours without a bite. Lake is covered with moss and weedbeds. Tried like hell to get a frog bite but apparently all my frogs are cursed. Swimjigs were useless. I did manage to boat one keeper on a spinnerbait on tournament day. Don Williams wasn't much better. Boated one keeper there on a spinnerbait and struggled just as much otherwise. Threw EVERYTHING in the boat. Frustrating as hell. To top it all off. Despite my struggles we were in a position to acutally win the tournament. Trailed by about 2 lbs going into Brushy on sunday. Boated my second keeper and my partner had a small limit. Lipped the bass with my left hand, rod in my right, running the trolling motor trying not to drift into the area I was actually catching some fish in. Well, fish shook, but I still had her, barely. Shook again, onto the deck, a couple of flops and into the lake she went . Never boated another keeper and ended up losing by 1.5 lbs . Everyone struggled on both lakes. Two day winning weight was 14.5 lbs. Other teams reported catching lot of shorts. I couldn't catch anything. I'm ready for 2011 Water was "clear". Not dirty, not muddy..... murky would be the best way to describe it (the scum line on the boat looked like charcoal). Water temps were 78 degrees. Weeds galore and tons on slop. Lake has dropped about 3 feet in the past week or so.

If it makes you feel better, I think the frog bite is cursed on all the lakes this year. I haven't encountered a single good frog bite on any lake around this year. Really starting to frustrate me...

Figures, I stocked up on frogs this year. Was really looking forward to some good frogging. Had maybe a handful of fish this year on them. To make matters worse, my partner was fishing a Senko behind the scum line. Ended up picking up a few as he was dragging the senko across the moss on the way back to the boat. They wouldn't hit a frog but they'd hit a Senko on the slop, can't figure it out .

interesting, I too think the frog bite is tough this year and with all the grass and rain I thought it would be good. I had a club tourney at anita lake in cass county and won with 19 lbs using a crank on the rock piles. One of the best days of fishing because I caught them all day and won by 5lbs

Ya know, I've been thinking about that all day long. I located a rock mound out in the middle of the lake. Went from 24 feet to 10 feet in depth. Big rock mound. I shoulda fished it. That's probably the one area of my fishing I want to expand on the most. I've experimented with the offshore structure fishing a bit but never really have given it an honest effort. As much as I struggled this weekend I keep doing this for not at least trying it. I need to "explore" that option more.

been doing really well on a 1/2 football jig with a brushhog trailer too. Love them rock piles as most guys keep hitting the banks even this time of year.
