Just found the iowa board. Well things are already starting to heat up. I caught 3 nice 2.5lb bass on mon on pool 14 and made it out today and caught me some keepers on 13. I was able to get one pic before the batteries died.(of course its a small one) Air temp was 36* when I left
and water surface temp was around 47*
Keep us posted. Would have liked to have hit the water this weekend but spent all weekend fixing the boat
I went to a small lake with the water temps around 55* and couldn't get a hit. Snagged a few carp on a lipless bait though. Should have gone to the river. Today I drowned a worm and caught several redhorse, they will be great pickled, and some catfish but thats about it. Walleyes are starting to bite below the dams.

I'd love to, but like last year its going to come down to funds. Last year I ran out so we'll see what happens. I've heard there is some awesome fishing up that way.
Last year we hit it just right. Hoping the same holds true this year. I was VERY impressed with the fishing. Hope you can make it. I understand about the funds though. I've gotta scrape and scratch up the money to do all my fishing too

Its even worse when your layed off. I haven't worked a day in a month. Hopefull april it will pick back up and I can return to work. Its always slow this time of year, but never like this.

The economy isn't the problem its our estimator. I work for an electrical contractor and last summer we fired out estimator of 10+years and hired a new guy that didn't have the first clue about industrial work. Up until I got layed off I was working over 50hrs a week for about 3-4 months then it went cold turkey fast. I was on the bottom of the totem pole. I'm sure things will pick up soon. Until then I'm collecting unemployement and doing some fishing when the weather gets nice.

not to much complaining. I would have much rather worked till now and then got layed off for a month, but either I've been able to do some fishing and the bass fishing has been picking up nicely. Just hope the temps stay up. 66 today, but it supposed to drop back down to around 50* the rest of the week.
I figure we'll have the final warm up about the time I leave for Oklahoma
thats to bad. Usually I don't even start bass fishing until april, but this year was different. So far its been good.

I've witnessed estimators sink a couple electrical contractors over here in the Iowa City area. Thankfully we have a few good estimators and one heck of a salesman with the company I am at
I'm about to finish my first year of school in 2 weeks. I couldn't wait to start school cause now the raises start coming in and I'm fond of that. He was a romex guy that got brought into a industrial shop with out ever dealing with that kind of stuff. It kind of sucks. The old estimator went through his apprenticeship at this company and had a good relationship with all the guys and wasn't afraid to get his hands dirty and show you it could be done if you tried telling him it couldn't be, but with that said I think the new guy will be ok still.
The one thing that worries me is I asked how the future jobs were looking and I got this and I quote "I'm just looking out for numero uno.."
That's good your in the schooling, ABC, or is it a union school?
That would be a rough adjustment, residential and industrial don't estimate. Residential is pretty straight forward, in both industrial and commercial there's a lot more to the estimating. Hope it works out.
If worse comes to worse, just move over here to Iowa City, there's a ton of work still. Good ol' U of I keeps everyone pretty busy here.
we're a non union shop so I got to ABC. I'm sure things will work themselves out. Our shop has been around a long time and has a good reputation among most of the factories. We also do all of the school work for the several schools and also the street lights for the city.
sounds like some really good accounts. schools and city work, you can never go wrong there. industrial is a fantastic thing to learn, not many electricians are capable of that type of work. take advantage of working there and learn as much as you can, it will pay off big eventually, trust me.
