    1998 Evinrude Vindicator 200HP

Hello All, new to the board for posting but have been reading up on all your post for a while.

I have a 1998 Evinrude Vindicator 200HP, I don't have a manual and this might seem like silly questions but any help would be appreciated.

    1) What grade octane should I use?

    2) I had some Penzoil 2 Stroke Oil that I used in my previous Merc, it was about a half gallon, I added to the oil tank for the Evinrude, is that okay, I know oil is not oil for some applications, just wondering if I can really damage something by this one time event.

    3) I asked this question on another board, but perhaps Evinrude pro's can offer additional help. What would be the correct procedure for starting this O/B, it has a hot foot installed. I always have a hard time starting first time in the AM, then it starts all day on the first crank.

Thanks for any help or info.

cjl.....87 octane is all they need,
One time penzoil will not hurt...be sure to decarbon once a year as a p.m.i.
To start...push in key to choke, these motors have a warmup feature that (I think) advances the timming until the engine reaches a certain temp, it will run ruff and smoke a bit.....once warmed up it idels smooth....If first start up is a problem there might be issues with this feature ...Im sure the real pros will fill in the blanks for you...... <>rob<>..

    use 87 octane is ok
i use evinrude xd 50 in my 1996 johnson 200 venom
mine is kinda hard to start in the morning as well
i push the key in to choke it and let it run when it starts to die jsut push the choke in again it might take a few tries till it gets warmed up pretty good but it wont be to long

I had the same problem with my 96 Vindicator. Its just the nature of the beast.Just do as suggested and keep hitting the prime button if it starts to stumble until it warms up a little. Once they are warm they start better than my DI.

Not really just make the swap to XD-50 when you can.

I always have a hard time starting first time in the AM, then it starts all day on the first crank. When you launch, trim to level and depress the choke key for 10 seconds, release the key, crank motor slightly advance the foot peddle, if it doesn't bust off then repeat procedure, and feather the choke. New plugs help matters.

Thanks for any help or info.
