Drop the LU and check and see if the shift rod isn't stripped out, if you disconnect the cables from the motor and manually spin the prop while moving the shift linkage it won't come out of reverse?
If that don't do it drain the fluid and look for big chunks of metal coming out of the bottom hole.
fluid looked normal when changed have not droped lower unit i think that would be over my head.
Would a shift rod replacement be big $$$$ or just the standard arm and leg?
The L/u would be the first born, Shift rod likely just arm and leg!!!
