I know the 7D is a half frame and I am pretty sure the 50 is a full frame. I mention this because if you already have lens you plan to use, the lens for the 1/2 frame used on full frame will vignette

If your speaking crop sensor ?? The 50 has one. The Mark 5 is a full frame - no crop sensor camera.

What does this mean? I was under the impression that it didn't matter what lenses you have, that they would work on a full frame and a crop sensor?? I was just under the impression that a crop sensor body wouldn't utilize the full lens range (I am not sure if I am using the correct terminology). For example my 50mm in a full frame would be 50mm but in my crop sensor 30d it is actually 75mm. Is this correct?

Paul ...your correct in your statement on the lens working on the cameras we're speaking about. As far as crop sensor...my search says a 30d has a crop sensor of 1.6 ....1.6 x 50mm = 80mm , My T1i has a 1.3 crop sensor x same 50mm = 65mm. That all said, anyone have a 50D they want to sell?

    Timberland,
Just an FYI the T1i is also a 1.6x or APS-C size sensor All of the XXd series are APS-C as well as the rebels and 7D. The 50D and T1i are pretty much the same sensor, the big differences are in shutter drive which on the 50D is faster and more durable, and the body itself which is more durable, made of metal and weather sealed otherwise they will take very similar pictures. The only 1.3x or APS-H size sensor i know about in Canon's lineup is the 1D Mk4.

Im not sure what kind of photography you do but you may want to take a really hard look at the 7D over the 50D. There is a lot of stuff about to like on the 7D that the 50 doesn't have. The biggest being the dual Digic 4 processors vs 1. One of the processors is dedicated to auto focus and if you do action photo's it really outshines the 50D(actually its better then just about any Canon short of the 1D in AF speed) with much better speed and the 19 point system is very accurate and flexable. The weather sealing is also much better then any of the XXD series, its on par with the 5d weather sealing. It also has a built in flash controller if you like to play with off camera flash.

You might watch this board (search 50d - there are several on there now) - I have bought and sold quite a bit of equipment here with great results. Pros and semi pros upgrading their equipment all the time. The better deals don't last long. You will have to join the forum to see the classifieds.

Very pleased with my 50d - although I have to fight the 7D fantasies sometimes...

Another place to look would be Adorama. They buy and sell used gear. A friend of mine bought a 24-70l from them used and wasnt happy with it and they swapped it out no questons asked so it looks like they stand behind the used stuff too.

heres a link to the cameras.
