He knows better than to be in the garden!

He must get beat pretty good when he misbehaves to act like that ?
Our dog knows he's not supposed to get on the couches at my Inlaws house so he sits beside it and puts one paw up at a time and looks around to see if anyone is looking, then he finally gets up on the couch. When he gets caught he has the same look on his face.

Never laid a hand on a dog in my life and have never had to.

I do not know what the hell is wrong with some of the people on this f'in forums but there are some real damn winners! People who think that they are somehow better and smarter than all the rest of us...or have the right to say and do as they please without any concern of care about common decency or respect...apparently Becka you are one of them.
I suppose now I will find out that you are someones girl, or someones buddy, or in tight with the boys club here and be asked to leave again...and I don't care.
Dogs don't have to be beat to know that they've done something wrong. The live to please their owner and when they know they have done something wrong they feel bad. All it takes is a stern look or the tone of your voice and they will melt. Don't listen to others who don't know you or your dog.

MInd you he is a 100lb lab. They do know when they have done something wrong. You cant stay mad at them either with that look they give you
I don't beat mine, and they BOTH know wrong from right. However at 18 months they constantly test the water, and will give the same look when the get caught
My Lab will give the same look too when she does something wrong. I can walk in the door and not even see what she has done and she will give me the i've been bad look..... All i have to do is say "uh oh, have you been a bad dog?" and she will lay on her bed with her head down and look guilty. Its too funny and its all the punishment she ever needs or gets, she totally knows right from wrong and 99% of the time doesn't do something wrong.
Heres mine in her 99% of the time.
