I do not know near as much as the other guys here. I am just now thinking on getting back into the hobby...but before the wife SHUT ME DOWN on buying a new camera I was looking at a few, both Nikons and Canons. They are similar but I was more comfortable holding the Canon. It "felt" better in my hands. All three of the Nikons I held felt heavy on the right side and were not a comfortable to grip...but that is probably just me.
I have read probably a thousand reviews of all sorts of cameras and the trade offs ( to me) seem so inconsequential. The two brands are so similar I was left feeling that it made little difference which I chose. I finally decided if I bought one I would buy a Canon ( like I said before the wife shut me down) because the replacement charger I bought for my point and shoot charges almost all canon batteries...so I have a second charger if needed...that is how similar I felt they were.

...but the guys here will have alot better info I am sure
