    Mountain Home Area

Gonna be there Saturday-Tuesday. I know, I know... Probably couldn't make the trip at a worse time, but those are the days I have... Was coming up primarily to fly fish (wading) White/Norfork, but am dragging the bass rig along too.

So... Am I just S.O.L. on fishing of any kind up there right now?

Any (well, most ) advice appreciated.

Norfork is at the top of the dam, very muddy and trash floating. Bull Shoals looks a little clearer but they say it will soon be another 8 feet deeper, your call, fish are being caught but not easily.

The problem with Bull Shoals would be finding a ramp to launch on. In 2008 when the water was up like it was now I was able to put in on the road at the Fairview launch. However if your by yourself plan on gettin wet. I did catch some good fish on the backside of the trees on frogs. Good luck with whatever you decide.

    Re: Mountain Home Area (hunt4)

You can get in at Bull Shoals Boat Dock, but you have to park at the top of the hill
not bad if you are a mountain goat

Thanks, y'all... Nobody sugarcoated anything... Still and all, I'll take my chances @ Norfork... Maybe even some fly fishing on the White... Weather looks beautiful for those days... Whatever happens, it happens...

It's a blessing just to have the chance...

    Very thankful!

If you want to fish Norfork it is easy to launch from the road to the ramp at Robinson Point park.

    Re: (rangerbobber)

Had a good trip to Norfork... Not much for fishing, but caught a couple bass from a little cove near the Jordan campground... Putting in at Quarry Park right above the dam was no problem. Even managed to stick a few trout on flies below the dam. In all my years of coming up there, I've never seen the water coming through the flood gates like that... Wow!

Would love to have fished the White, but they were generating the whole time. Oh well, great weather and a good time!

    Norfork Lake Ramps and Access

Here is the most current ramp/launch and lake conditions.

    http://www.norforklakechamber....s.htm

The lake is clearing nicely. 3/4 of the main channel is clear as is the Big Creek arm. There is still some floating debris, but this is settling more and more every day. Lake level it 1.5 foot from the top. Shore line is into the buck brush. Striper and hybred fishing has been great. Whites are pretty good as are smallies.

Re: Norfork Lake Ramps and Access (Hand Cove Greg)

I'll vouch for the improving conditions on the lake... Did multi-mile boat runs on the 7th and 9th... Think I had to dodge ONE floating log/tree the whole time...

It sucks when you brag on how freakin' clear the water is to someone who has never been there... And they finally decide to show up in May of 2011.

Then again... When all they've ever known are gar holes... Well... Still a pretty special place.
