Jason. I owned several OMC motors and had great luck with them, never owned a Yammie. But, I bet a 300 HP Evinrude is in the works.

Didn't mean to offend owners of any brand of outboard. I now own a Merc and it's been the most troublesome motor yet. So, no I wasn't stirring things up.

The current block is capable of more than 300 hp. That's been tested and proven. But, I don't see anything being in the works until they get these smaller hp motors in production and the backorders filled. The market that is going to be the $$$ maker is the smaller motors such as the 150. Would they sale 300 H.O.'s? Sure, but not enough to make good money. The 250 H.O. will come before the 300 just because of the demand. FLW and BASS will not be raising maximum hp ratings to 300 or unlimited in the next several years, so the one or two hundred 300 horsepower motors they would sale wouldn't justify putting the others on the back burners.
BRP has to get these 150's out. They are losing business right now. After that, a 250 H.O. with the new MagnumXP gearcase should be next to come. Then, who knows. We'll just have to wait and see.

If OMC had not gone under in '97 or '98 I would own one of their motors. I am glad they are building motors again as competition helps the consumer.

OMC didn't start the bankruptcy process until I believe '01. Bombardier (BRP) purchased the outboard brands and began building the motors.

Evinrude has some stuff in the works but they are actualy doing what is fiscaly sound for their biz. Making motors that make money.
Now that said I think they should really get on the ball and release the 250 HO.
That motor will sell in droves. And it gives some bragging rights to those who purchase the lower HP motors.

What year is it? Who built it? What is the compression?. Has it been on a dyno?
I have an 86 2.7 that has been bored to 3.0 and fingerports added. It was ported to Stokers specs by Gary Williams. It produces about 335 hp.
I am looking for a motor to use for skiing. Mine is a little too high strung to drag the kids around on the tube.

Neverdge, do not think you want this motor for skiing, it was on a 201 pro stratos, about 2500 lbs. with tourny load, and it was going about 75 -79 mph. and could go lots more. ON THE HUNT ( + ) built this motor, and he was very perciese on his work. this motor is ALL balanced, with all new parts,even hoses and bolts pistons are also top steaked and fingure ported. Pistons still have cross hatch on them, and no scoring on them.Only used Amsoil Dominator synthetic racing oil in it. Only have about 75 hrs. on it .It was a 1989, but now a 1998. compression is 125 on each cylinder.Can send more info if needed. but thanks for your reply!!!
