    Standard 150 vs. 150HO

I am new to Evinrude Outboards, have always ouwned the black ones. I have been hearing lots of good things from the E-tec motors

I am in the process of getting a New boat. My question is how much performance difference are there in the standard 150 e-tec and the 150HO e-tec? The boat I will be putting the motor on is a Stratos 285 Pro XL.
Any and all information will be appreciated.

    Thanks in advance
    Larry.

The factory says' Factory tuned for optimum performance" or something like that. They are able to go as much as 10% over 150 on the HO.

Thanks that extra 10% should be worth a few extra dollars.

Re: Standard 150 vs. 150HO (cfieldbasser)

I know the 150e-tec is new, but has anyone seen any mfg. stats on it. I am kind of buying blind as far as the 150 is concerned. I know the other E-tec engines are getting high marks from all that have them, and don't see why the 150 wouldn't be the same.
I guess what I am trying to do is convince myself that I have made the right decision.

    Thanks for any coments.

Re: Standard 150 vs. 150HO (lewjack)

    Lewjack,
I just checked out the stats that were posted with the 150HO on the Stratos. Something is very wrong with that report. I have an 04' Stratos 285proxl, with an 04' 150HO (DI version not etec), but all of my number are way better than what they showed. I'm getting 64-67gps depending on load and conditions everyday and all day. I have never run it by my self with a light load so I'm not sure exactally it will top out at. My hole shot is under 3 seconds, not even close to the 5.8 seconds in that report and I swear that motor makes oil somehow. If I told you how little it uses you would not believe me. Granted, I have had a little prop work done that makes a little difference, but even when my Raker 24" was stock it performed way better than that report. I guess what I'm saying is that I believe that report is wrong or the set up was way bad. If it is correct get the DI version of the 150 HO. It has been flawless and is very fast.... You will be impressed,

    Re: Standard 150 vs. 150HO (stratos285)

Thanks for the replys. I just read the reports and think it should run better according to some reports I seen on other peoples personnel boats.

Maybe as the engine gets more running time, it will loosen up and perform better.

Stratos, This will be my first Stratos boat, how does this boat do in rough water?
Some of the lakes I fish get pretty bad when the wind comes up. I really don't want to go larger on the boat size because I do fish a lot of small lakes.

    Thanks again for the replies

I think the Ranger report could have been much better too. They didn't have a jackplate on the boat and it was 90o the day they did it...

Re: Standard 150 vs. 150HO (lewjack)

I believe this boat handles rough water very well. Now, I have heard many people say that own 18.5 footers that they run wide open in 3 foot rollers with no problems. Well I believe that those people do not know what 3 foot really is. I can say that I fish Toledo Bend a good bit and it can get really nasty out there and I have been very impressed. The deep v in this boat does a really good job in cutting through rough water and keeps the boat from bouncing out of the water making the ride too rough. I have been in 18.5 footers from all makes of boats,(Ranger, Skeeter, Basscat, Nitro) and I believe the Stratos is better in big, rough, water.
Regarding those performance tests....I wish Evinrude would have spent a little more time setting those rigs up before publishing. I was very unimpressed with those results. I know for a fact that the 285 will run 62gps with any 150hp motor, so the HO must be faster. Like I said....mine is.

The Ranger and Stratos reports were taken from boats set up for Dealer Shows where everyone is invited to run the boats regardless of driving experience.

    Re: Standard 150 vs. 150HO (RUSTY63)

Thanks for the info Stratos and Rusty.
I thought the HO should perform better than that, If they are set for demo purposes I understand why the numbers aren't as high as I thought they may be.
As far as the rough water ride, I am glad to know that the 285 has a good ride. Like I said dI don't really need a larger boat but I do sometimes fish Lake of the Ozarks and other windy lakes, so the rough water ride is a plus.

    Thanks
    Larry
