I drive by there every day. Personally, I prefer Gander. You can "hands on" check out the sonars, comparable selection of tackle, though Academy does have the H2o Express lures.
You have to hit one of the guys behind the counter with a rod to get their attention at Academy to even look at a reel at the counter...if one person wants to check out a gun it takes three salesmen to watch.

Yeah, I bought my first and only Academy gun last year. It was a painful process to say the least. I do like Academy for the H20 stuff, and its easier to get to coming from the north..

I like it because it's close to my work...and they usually have whatever I need.

Not the mention the "knock-off" Lucky Craft baits...

I work over by McCain/Springhill area, so hop on Landers then catch the turn around under 67/167 and back in business.
The H2o Baits are good looking to say the least....

Yall don't need to buy any of those H2O baits. They seem to be painted with lead paint, and we all know about lead paint. It gets absorbed throught the skin and cause vision problems, hearing problems, your hair will fall out, basically you will turn into a toad (or Danny). They WILL NOT catch a fish at all. So if you have any just send them to me and I will dispose of them in my ACME certified lead bait disposal unit Same thing with the big bite soft plastics.

I've heard there is a "gander mountain" at Dardanelle, some secluded cove and a park where people can gander at different things.
