    85 Johnson GT rebuild

I blew my motor a few months back and will be rebuilding it shortly. It will still start and run but has a nice peck to it. The engine had previously been bored 30 over. If its a crank bearing problem like im thinking from the sound its making and i dont have to scrap the motor I want to take the oil injection off.

What do you guys recommend the premix fuel ratio to be. I know the VRO is very unreliable and don't want to tank another engine. I'm not trying to build a rocket ship here boat ran great as it was. It was pushing my 83 Ranger 372V 58 mph GPS so I can't complain.

So i was just basically wandering if the mix had to be richer with the engine being bored out.

    thanks <><

    50 to one.

Make sure you find the real problem with your engine before you blame the VRO.

    Check this link.

IF the "VRO" was bad, then ALL the bearings and pistons would be trashed since it premixes the oil and gas before it goes to the carbs. Just imagine what your motor would look like if you forgot to add oil to the gas if you "premixed" your fuel.

Read that "VRO" article and make sure you are using the latest pump and that you update your oil tank line and connections if you are going that route. If you want to premix, then "cap off" the oil system.

For break in, use 24:1 for the first 10 hours.

thanks for all the help. I may decide to keep the VRO on the boat. I will probably get it fixed, run it for the summer and sell it in the fall. Its a great boat for the little bit of nothing that i paid for it. So I can spend money on it and still come out good.

If you decide to do the rebuild or maintain it yourself, order a shop manual from http://www.kencook.com they are pricey but don't settle for anything else.
