I heard today that Yamaha was comming out with a twin turbo desiel outboard that was lighter than the hpdi 2 strokes and they are turning 34" pitch props at 5000 rpm with great hole shot and equal to or better top end than 2 strokes. Has any one else heard of this I heard they have them out on some salt boats now. Could this be true? they even said that the impact on enviroment was better than the 4 strokes of today, and that they would meet 2014 EPA guildlines.![]()

That is the predecesser to the underwater turbine lower-unit powered by a Triple Ion engine. They are still trying to perfect the flux capacitor before it goes on the market. Please keep this under wraps...I perhaps have said too much
Look out Merc and BRP...Yamaha is setting new standards in outboard technology
Yeah that flux capaciter can be tricky

I couldn't resist.
I just posted this in the Yamaha Forum, this part is real though (the conversation).............
I just talked to a dealership owner that is going to attend the unveiling the week after next. He said the pres of Skeeter told him he was driving one of the boats in the video. They were both 20i's, one with a 250 HPDI, one with a new 250 4 stroke. Boat weights were almost identical.
Supposedly 4 miles after blast off the new motor was 40 boat lengths ahead, and top speed was a bit over 78 mph.
The new motor is not supercharged, and it's not turbocharged. It's supposedly technology used in racing, fine tuned for outboards.
The weight is supposed to be just under an HPDI.
Take it for what you want, but this is what a dealership owner told me. He knows full well that the truth will be coming out next week, and I don't think he'd say something to just look like a fool.
I hope he's right!

So thats an 800ft lead after 4 miles of running. Top speed of 78 mph. I hated math in school but that translates to MAYBE a 1 mph difference right? Maybe even .5 mph??? Don't get me wrong, if they do have a 4-Stroke running at least the same speed as a Series 2 HPDI of equivilent HP its still shows progression in 4-Stroke performance.
