    Bobs lwp ?

Has any one run one of these on a hpdi case and wonder how it compares to Hydro tech lwp ? I have a brand new Hpdi 1.75 case thats never been on a motor and was thinking about getting a Bobs lwp to compare it to my Hydro tech lwp .

why not get the hydrotec mod done?
think it cost $500 and it gained 5 mph on a stroker in the BWB magazine.

It won't gain that much on any other hull. Lucky to gain any on boats running deeper than 2 in below the pad. Stroker can run 3+ inchs above the pad. Thats why the big gain. I'd sure like to try it on my boat though..

it will definitely run better than a stock gear case.
hell its a lot more hydro dynamic.

    Re: Bobs lwp ? (jim4596)

Not always, Depends on the hull. A HPDI LU is 5 mph slower on a champion F&S than a stock OX66 LU with the same gears. Just ask Jeff Banko http://www.bbcboards.net...=3130

Just because they are pointy, look faster and cool, Don't mean it is more efficient of have the lift needed for all set ups. The rig will have to run super high to benefit from the LWP and added length of the gearcase or it will just be added drag.

    Re: Bobs lwp ? (21XDC)

who said anything about an ox66 case?
the question was regarding an hpdi gear case. Go back and reread the original question mike (do u still have jetlag?) .

I stand behind my statement that a stock hpdi gearcase will be slower than a hydrotec modified gearcase. my original gearcase was flat in the front. you could shave with my hydrotec gearcase. it is faster than a stock hpdi gearcase.

    Re: Bobs lwp ? (jim4596)

I know some that put bobs, titus cone on a ox66 and lost speed... My point is that a coned case is not always faster. Many variables between what case/cone works on different hulls.

Everybody run out and get 5 more mph because Jim said so...

    Re: Bobs lwp ? (STROKEDYAMAHA)

I am running a champ 21sx which is a f&s built on a 206 hull, gained nearly 5 mph by swapping out a stock bulleted HPDI lu for a traditional shaped ox66 lu. Was told by a few prop guys that they have done that same swap on other heavy boat brands (Ranger) and had same results. The theaoy is that on the heavier hulls where the LU has to be run deeper the bulleted nose cones are in allowing the water to run to clean around them not blowing open enough of a "hole" to efficiently allow the prop to spin up in areas.

Thanks for verifying that those of us with hydrotec mod gearcases arent crazy and just wasted the money.
You wont gain 5 mph on any hull but a fast hull like a stroker. a stratos you will gain some, but not 5 mph. i dont think i ever said that. but i guess i got the mod and got a stratos and dont know what im talking about. nothing like the internet to make everyone experts.
how many hydrotec modified gearcases have you run on your boat? I am on my second one. should be here next week in fact. if u want, I can try and find a standard HPDI gearcase and run it and post the results, but it will be faster with the mod. GUARANTEED!
Now Im not talking about OX66 versus HPDI lower, Im only talking about HPDI low water unit versus a hydrotec modded lower.
Like I said, I have one on my boat. Anyone that has had the mod done by hydrotec and it actually slowed your boat down, please step up and let us know. I got a feeling there wont be anyone that has had that happen.

    Re: Bobs lwp ? (jim4596)

didnt know i was stiring up stuff , i have a hydrotech modded hpdi lu with 1.75 gears in it , its faster than stock gear case . I ran a 0x66 1.75 on my boat that had a bobs lwp on it , this case is 1 inch taller than a hpdi case. This case was faster at the same prop shaft height than the hydro tech modded hpdi case , but i couldnt raise it any higher b/c of the difference in case hight , at 1 inch above the pad the bobs was faster than the hydro tech at 1 inch above in my opinion b/c it handled lots better , not bashing hydro tech by any means , thats the way it was . Hydro tech modded unit handled betterthan the stock lower . So i have abrand new hpdi lower that i am going to put a bobs lwp on , i will be able to raise it on my plate ( the prop shaft ) 1 inch higher than the bobs on the ox66 . This was on a 21 xrd with a 300 hpdi series 2.

buddy put a hpdi lower on his tr 20 with 225 ox66 with a 1.81 , going to the lwp and the 1.75 gave 3.5 mph.

Re: Bobs lwp ? (john tr 21)

Not stirring it up for me. I just know I have a hydrotec gear case and I am happy with the speeds I get. If i had a stroker or allison or bullet I would probably have a sportmaster on it (or one of those cheap chinese sportmaster copies _).
But I hear that they are having problems with water getting in them.

I can raise my engine as high as it will go and I will never run out of water pressure and it runs excellent. I just got to find the damn right prop. I dont know why Mike wants to argue about lower units when he should be helping me find a prop.

I added a hydro tec mod l/u to my phase 3 300 hpdi and blazer 210 combo and it added between 4 and 5 mph to my previous best, depending upon conditions. Cannot say what it will do for others, but for me it was the best money spent in mods.

The fastest yamaha case I have run and have run close to 10 different conifigurations was a Titus full cone modded hpdi....full coned hpdi lowers are pretty rare and all are a little differnt

Re: Bobs lwp ? (john tr 21)

THIS IS ON A PRO-V LOWER I HIT A WALL AT 75 MPH AND STARTED BLOWING OUT THE BOAT BECAME COMPLETELY UNCONTROLABLE (1995 GAMBLER INTIMIDATOR). INSTALLED A BOB'S NOSECONE AND DID NOT GAIN ANY BUT IT WAS EASY TO DRIVE WITH NO BLOW OUT AT ALL. I THEN MODIFIED THE POWERHEAD AND INCDREASED THE HP TO 266 @ 6500 NOW IT WILL RUN IN THE LOW 80'S WITH A 28 PITCH PROP AND I KNOW THAT THERE IS NO WAS POSSIBLE THAT A STOCK LOWER UNIT WOULD RUN CLOSE TO IT AND I CAN RUN IT SKY HIGH WITH NO LOSS IN WATER PRESSURE. THE GAMBLER IS A HEAVY HULL THAT NORMALLY REQUIRES A DEEP PROPSHAFT HEIGHT ON A STOCK MOTOR TO CARRY THE BOAT BUT WITH THE EXTRA HP IT LOVES THE EXTRA HEIGHT THE BOBS NOSE ALOWS. THE BOBS NOSE CONE MOD COSTS 400 FOR THEM TO DO IT AND IS WORTH EVERY PENNY. MY BOAT WAS NOT CONTROLABLE ABOVE 75 WITH THE STOCK LOWER AND DRIVES LIKE A SPORTS CAR WITH THE BOBS. THE MOD ON A PRO-V LOWER UNIT FROM HYDROTEC AND BOBS IS EXACTLY THE SAME AND HYDROTEC IS THE ONE THAT GAVE ME THAT INFO. THEY ACTUALLY BUY THE PARTS FORM BOBS. I DONT KNOW IF THAT IS THE SAME WITH THE HPDI UNITS OR NOT.

the bobs and the hydrotech are different , bobs adds a cone and lengthens the cone witch is why they handle better.
