Don't really know , but XF if extended front and , XD is extended deck...

XD = Extended Deck - More deck space

Does it still have storage in the middle like an XD with the flip up step?

thats most of the reason i sold my 16 foot ray craft the deck started right benhind the seat post and it was hell for a big boy lik me to get on and off the deck with seat in place

The lid still lifts up and there is storage under the deck, it's just not as much.

And the gunnels on the XF are much higher than the XD. Or the deck is lower, however you wanna look at it.
