    24 volt trolling motor vs. 36 volt???

    I have a 2010 21 RDC. i wanted a 36 volt trolling motor, but it was recommended that I get a 24 volt in a Bullet because they are so light. Any opinions?

    I had a 36v triller on 21 and it was a beast. I think it was a 109 tour edition. You could definitely get away with a 24 but 36 wouldn't hurt anything

    Well my boat is only a 20ft Bullet and my troller is an older model 24 volt with 46 pound thrust. It really does pretty good though. I would think the big 24 volts would just fine, I an goin to replace mine with a new 70lb, 24 volt before to much longer. Plus you don't have to haul another battery. JMO

    The 24v has been perfect and I've felt absolutely no need for a 36v for the last year. I had a tourney at Guntersville a couple weeks ago and the wind 20+ MPH plus working the boat through grass mats. It barely made it both days. It probably would have helped to have a 36v in that once in a while situation...

    i have a 109 tour on mine. i love it . i only use 3 batteries total. gets me through anything down here in FL

    whatzap, so you tie your cranking battery in for one of the 3 trolling motor batteries?

    Yup, just have to be careful what else ya run on the cranking.. This is where one of the charge on the fly units comes in handy for sure!!

    Don't forget that more voltage means less amp usage. I have 36v on my 20xd, 2group 27 batts and 1 group 29batt, all day tourneys are not sweat with livewells, running lights, two humminbird 797's.

    Ran 24v (group 27 batts.) and 1 grp. 27 for cranking on my allison and it was no sweat for an all day tourney either.

    Not much help am I?

    jaybluez, so you run a 36v to only 2 batteries? i'm not following you but the more voltage = less amps makes genius sense! explain more please!!!

    yes.. i use all 3 batteries for everything. I converted to this set up about 7 years ago. NEVER had any problems. I fish 8-9 hr tournys all the time. i have 3 group 27 batteries in mine. I think the other feller is using 2 27s and a 29. the 29 should have more reserve which = longer drain time which = more time before dead battery. group 29s are BIG bitch"s hope this helps.

    I went this route as well. ORIGINALLY i rigged my floater with 3 group 31's running a 24v 80 Minnkota. After about 6 months I looked at this set up and thought is was more then I needed/wanted. So I dropped a battery. I have now run (2) group 31 optimas total in my rig for going on 3 years. No problems so far, never even had a sign of a low battery. Same batteries are still in the boat. I run livewells all day and 997 all day tourney fishing. I also run a Power Pole.

    I have never had a 109# thrust motor on any boat. the 80 moves my boat fine and will eat of the Hydrilla as well. I think the Minnkota prop is key. The motorguide sucks in hydrilla. The added weight of that 109 on the nose of my rig I am sure would play a big roll as well.

    if you do any semi-serious tournament fishing in wind, weeds or current, always buy the biggest troller!

    i am running 36v in my 21xdc with 3 batts total (optimas)

    this is awesome advice. so explain the (groups) to me? my boat came with Deka AGM maintenance free batteries... most you of you guys like the Optimas. would a higher # group batteries give my trolling motor longer life on a rough day?

    Visited the factory today and learned that they will build in extra room for a 36 volt system. They shorten the storage box about 6 inches on the port side.
    You can only do this at time of build though.

    ahhh man! that would be sweet. the rear lockers plenty deep to sacrifice 6 inches! bummer. honestly, the 24v is fine 95% of the time. it's just good to have that 5% when it is needed!

    Basicly make it like ya was putting in a saddle tank.. If I ever bought a new Bullet it would have the storage boxes done as if there would be saddle tanks added.. This will leave a lot of room in back and still give good storage for the way I pack a boat!!! My containers are small but totally full, no wasted space..

    Me too, I use small storage containers, but they're packed. I keep EVERYTHING in my boat no problem. Any time I take stuff out I need it! I've tested numerous time heavy load and light load. My boat is faster loaded and it doesn't affect gas milage. Also, I've run my boat at 55mph all day and 70+ all day. Gas consumption is the same!
