    need help

Already posted this in Yamaha Genral Forum, but need to get a quick answer. Leaving for up north soon and need to know if I should be running the brass thrust washer

"Had my thrust washer break into 2 pcs. Ordered a new one from the dealer and the one I received is brass. It is for a 300 HPDI. Is this the right washer or should it be Stainless Steel? I've already got some gouges in the lower unit from the prop rubbing when the last washer broke, don't want to do any more damage...
Thanks in advance for any help.."

Are you running a Yamaha T1 prop? There is a problem with the T1 running on a Hpdi. THe thrust washer wears out very fast and rubs into the gearcase. Yamaha has a 2 piece thrust washer for this problem. You will need to go to your dealer and request them to call Yamaha about this problem and get it replaced. It is possible that Yamaha will replace your gearcase depending on how bad it is????

Wayne, I had yamaha replace my L.U under warranty because of the thrush washer issue. I was running a T1 prop, they replaced the prop also. The thrush washer they sent along with the L.U and prop was the one piece stainless washer.

    Yes, I'm runnig a 27 T1.
I'm in Canada, my dealer called Yamaha Canada and they claimed they have not heard of any issues with the thrust washers wearing out prematurely. I asked about the 2 piece washer and they had no info on it at all. Pictures were sent to Yamaha to see if they will replace the lower unit. Up here the thrust washers cost over $200/pc. This could get expensive....
