Having a hard time deciding whether or not to go comp. I do not fish any big lakes mostly canals and bayous. Do you see any reason why not to go comp. What are some of the pro's and con's yall have experienced. Thanks for your input.![]()

I think durability is not an issue as long as you keep in mind that you have a comp. I have had zero issues with my comp and would do it again if I bought a new one. Now if your a big ol boy then maybe I would take that into consideration. I would not step on the cap or lean against the consol. These areas are noticably thinner. I also think the bow is going to sit higher on a comp. With that said if your a big guy and fill up the well and fuel tank then take a big ol boy and put him inda chair then you gunna be reaching to see over the bow while ideling around.. Just my opinion... Standard layup or comp I aint steppin on no gel areas anyway. For what its worth I love my Comp hull and think it was worth every penny extra. At this time I have not seen anything that I would rather own...
Just want to add that I am a fair weather angler as well. Unless its tourney time. I have been in the roughest water I have ever had to while in my comp. Not a single problem... Now anyone who is looking to get into a comp is clearely a go faster kinda guy. They usually pick there days anyway to run big numbers. Bottom line is if you want to be the big dawg then you need the tools to do so... If mother nature throws some weather at you, there is no doubt in my mind that a comp will still hold its own ;). Don't forget... In a comp Muther nature is still gunna have to catch you!!!! Hell yeah!

I have the XT layup and would do that again for the rough water I fish. I went to a rally and saw a super comp or reg comp hull spider crack the whole side 6 ft in diameter. Just from hitting some heavy boat wakes on Lk Pickwick.![]()
No thanks... For the no warranty. But thats just me. I'd rather go a little slower. Unless I was just racing the hull on smooth water.

I think I was told 45 lbs or so. Might depend on a 20 or 22 fter.

Someone who fishes the massive lakes would be a fool to put any light lay-up boat of any make in it... In my opinion your just going to destroy the boat. Hell Standard lay-up boats have a hard time even holding up on those lakes and some don't...
Kudos to the dumb ass who spider cracked his boat![]()
I have spider cracks in my 91 20XD............It got smacked by a 3/4 ton truck about 5 years ago![]()
luckily the trailer took most of the force

Going with a Comp, Standard, Or Xtra heavy lay-up is probably more of a regional thing. I don't think the weather will ever get rough enough to hurt my comp down hear in sunny south florida. Like i said, the worst weather i have ever been in was blowing 30+ mph. Guys died on Okeechobee that weekend. My Lighter lay-up faired just fine. In fact i had a 2200 Gambler tuck in behind me to run across the lake![]()
Now i ain't talkin big water like the great lakes get. Then again, if you fish those bodies of water don't be a fool and buy a light boat. Bottom line.
Its all in what you want..![]()
Just curious on how much difference in speed can you expect to gain from a comp hull vs a regular one with the same set up?

I would say 5mph.
I'd like to know who's boat had a ''6' crack from hitting a wave at the rally''...this is the first I've heard.

You should know as it was your old black CC. Then sold it to Brian the Doc and I personally saw the damage when he pulled off Pickwick that day...I think he told me you had it fixed where it all cracked up again.. Maybe that was a super comp/super weak

I didn't fix anything and don't have a clue what your talking about. Brian still has the boat and yes his boat is a 850 lb 20CC super comp boat. You would have thought over the last 5 years he would have mentioned it to me in all our phone conversations.
