    130 saltwater yamaha water pump

Ok, finally got this thing running, and there is no water coming out of the pee hole. I was told the boat got stuck on a sand bar. I am assuming that the impeller was damaged. Does this sound like a good place to start? And how hard is it to change the water pump? I saw it done on SIMyamaha.com, but pictures don't always tell the whole story.

The water pump is very easy to change.Just tilt the engine up,unbolt the lower unit and disconnect the speedo tube where it comes out of the lower unit before you unbolt the lower unit, and the lower unit will come rite out.I would also check the popit valve on the engine and make shure it's clean. If sand has gotten in there it will hang the popit open causeing a loss of pressure, but will still pump water.

hmm, popit valve you say, so where about's is this thing? I know about the thermostats. I am new to the yamaha's and I dont remember anything about this valve on my 1975 johnson, not to say it wasnt there.

If you look between the cyl.heads at the very bottom of the motor you will see a little houseing that kind of looks like a thermostat cover with about a 1" hose comming off it,well the popit valve is under it with a spring between the cover and the valve. It is also refered to as a pressure relief valve, and if it's hung partly open it will cause your pressure to be low. Also make shure the little pisser hole isn't just plugged up.
