    Right Prop for my SHO?

    2011 Ranger 211VS Reata Fish & Play

    2011 Yamaha 225 SHO

    Yamaha 21P Pro Series Prop

    Maximum RPM = 5,950

    Maximum Speed = 56.9 MPH

    Hole Shot = 4 to 5 seconds

    Elevation = 1,500 Ft.

Is this the best prop for my boat/motor or is there something that will give me more top speed?

Your showing 20% slip. I believe you need more blade area. Diameter or another blade, or both.

    I think I'd try a 21P Mercury Mirage plus, it's 14 3/4 diameter. http://www.mercurymarine.com/p...irage/

    And a 21P Revolution4.. It's 14 5/8 http://www.mercurymarine.com/p...ion-4/

Yamaha also owns Turbo and you might try these as well..

That's my problem: There are lots of choices and options, but I simply can't afford to buy & try 3 or 4 different props and living in the barren wasteland of West Texas, I don't have a dealer that stocks any "demo" props.

    21XDC:

I'm showing around 16% prop slip when I use the Mercury prop slip calculator. There may be other factors that I'm missing.

Will the Mirage Plus yield less slip and more top speed? What would you predict my numbers will be? Are there formulas or charts for this information or are you speaking from experience?

Remember, my Reata is a heavy boat and the hull is more of a cross between a Ranger bass boat and a Ranger Variable Species boat.

I dont have any experience with your set up... But I know what slip is and that motor likes more diameter and blade area. Even more so on a big ol' heavy boat. I'm just trying to help. Did you add 1 inch of pitch to the prop pitch for the calc? You must as these props have cup. Read this>> http://www.go-fast.com/prop_slip.htm

Didn't mean to sound like I was unappreciative because I am.

The prop slip information is great.

I didn't add 1" for prop slip. So the Pro-Series Yamaha is a cupped prop?

Should I run a ventless prop on the SHO? I noticed that Yamaha now has ventless props made specifically for the SHO, bur not a 21 pitch.

Yes the pro series is cupped. The T1 is a good prop, but they dont go down low enough in pitch nor do they have much blade area in the smaller pitchs.

Re: Right Prop for my SHO? (WestTexasRanger)

On my Skeeter a ventless prop was the ticket, and from what I have heard from others a ventless prop is the way to go on the SHO motors. My best prop so far has been the Yamaha V-max 25-T1 ventless. Heard the new Turbo FXP ventless prop was good on them as well, but haven`t tried that one yet.
