What octane fuel are you burning in your SHO?

I was told to only use 89 or higher but have heard 87 is ok. Also I've been told Yamaha Ring Free is a must.

I have a 250 that requires 89 octane. I believe the 200 uses 87 and I'm not sure about the 225. Ring Free is recommended but not required.

Beautiful new boat. You will really like that SHO. It is recomended to use 89 or above. From what I understand you can run lower octane but the performace will be off but no damage will be done. Not sure about where you live but around here when you buy 89 it will have ethanol in it. I use Shell or BP 93 or 92 octane but no ethanol. I do run ringfree to keep the warranty/service people happy. But I really question if its needed in a four stroke.

Just checked the owners manual. The 200 can run on 87 but the 225 & 250 require 89 octane minimum.

89 Octane and lots of Sea Foam and Stabil. You'll love the SHO by the way.

Beautiful ride Preston. I run 91 in my 250 SHO because it is the only ethanol free gas I can buy around here. I run Ring-Free + because a 4 stroke motor will carbon up if run to much at idle or at low rpm's. Larry Brumley

So here is a question for your guys. I just ordered a Ranger with a 250 SHO and I live in Colorado which is higher elevation. Our gas octane levels are 85, 87, and 89. Because of the elevation level the octane ratings are lower. Does this mean I have to run premium in that motor?

Preston welcome to the "Bug" family

For the SHO motors you all need to be running the 89 octane or higher and use the Ring Free
