    Quick toledo trip

I went up sunday night and came home this morning. I couldn't go 5 minutes on I49 without seeing someone pulling a boat north!!
Monday, i caught around 20 bass in the afternoon. Biggest was 3 lbs. Flukes, square bill crankbait, and a rogue. All were caught near shallow grass.
Tuesday, caught around 30 bass. Lost one that was 4-5 lbs. Lost another that i never saw but did see the wake she was making and i couldn't turn her, 30# braide, and the hook pulled out. I picked up quite a few on the inside grass line using a fluke. Other's were caught in about 2' of water with old hay grass and little bushes. Some would nail it working it fast on top, and others wanted it slow or stopped.
Had a blast, got a little sunburned and a bruised ribcage from setting the hook!!

Sounds like you had some fun! If you don't mind me asking, what color fluke did you use? I'm assuming you fished it weightless? I'm going over there in a few weeks and need all the info I can get.
The only place I know is Patroon and it sucked last week.

Must be nice to go whenever you want, without making reservations months in advance...

Thats the kind of bite we were hoping to get from the weather forecast last week but it looks like this is the week.

We had the same problem. Everything was pointing to last week being the week. Water hitting 63-64, full moon, rising water. Your thinking we are gonna nail em.

then BAM.. 44 degrees with 20+mph winds post front conditions. just my luck

    Re: Quick toledo trip (bayouXpress)

Yes indeed, it was a good time. My neighbor said sunday he had a fire going and monday i get a sunburn!!
The fluke was a watermellon seed mainly, although i did catch a few on mardi gras, but the wm/seed is my favorite. And yes, it was weightless, but i was using an Owner 5/0 extra wide gap. It's a stout hook and gives me enough weight to sink. I'll also use a 4/0 if i want to work it closer to topwater and want a little slower sink.
