Yamaha Trim gauge not working

I have a 1988 Ranger 364v with a 1988 Yamaha 150 Pro Vee. My trim gauge does not work...I need help in trouble shooting this issue.

$2 plastic tab on the motor is cracked.. Replace it with the new metal style for $7.

Where specifically is the tab? I looked at the motor and don't see anything like you mention.

Trim the motor all the way up and look on the tube running across the front of the motor (may need to look from underneath) You should see a black plastic ring with a plastic finger,,, if you press on the finger your gauge should respond,, this is a good way to test the gauge.
