Do break in as per manual.
Use recommended additives and 89 octane fuel.
When running WOT..keep trim down to load motor.
Keep eye on oil level.
Don't panic if oil level rises during break in. If it gets too high...change it.
Post on these boards and you will get help. Those of us who have had good experiences with this engine love love it!

The fx is an awesome boat, I never really liked skeeter until the FX came out. Congrats.![]()
Great choice. You are going to love it. Keep the nose burried for the first 10 hoirs and break in by the book. No extensive idling! Check the oil level every 2 hours for the first 10. Good luck!

I'd like to add, make sure starting out oil is halfway between full and add mark. This is where it should always be run really. But, it will make oil for awhile so keep an eye on it and change the oil when it reaches the full mark. I like to completely drain and add exactly 5.7 liters, thats puts the level just below half way on stick. Only change the oil filter as per manual but change oil when or if it reaches full mark. As others have said keep it under load with lots of varying throttle. All thats being broke in is ring seal on these engines and it evidently can take a little while. Dont run synthetic (I wouldnt run it at all anyway, but thats just me) untill after your sure its not making oil or your just throwing money away. (Synthetic is just throwing money away anyway, but again thats just me).![]()
<table width="90%" cellspacing=0 cellpadding=0 align=center><tr><td>Quote, originally posted by FROM YAMAHA »</td></tr><tr><td class="quote"> WeÂd recommend running Yamalube 4M marine oil in both outboards. YamalubeÂs new 4M Full Synthetic is intended primarily for use in YamahaÂs new V MAX SHO four stroke outboards, but it also provides tangible benefits for other Yamaha and non-Yamaha four stroke outboards as well. Using it will result in lower internal friction and youÂd most likely see a small increase in fuel economy (maybe 5% or so). Oil change intervals remain the same as Marine Performance 4M (100 hours or annually). </td></tr></table>

Key word, MAYBE see a gain in fuel economy. I think of it this way, if there is enough friction in an engine running regular oil that switching to synthetic makes a noticeable difference in power or fuel economy then the engine wouldnt last a 100 hrs on the regular oil. Where synthetic shines is cleaner burning in a 2 stroke and it doesnt break down as soon as regular oil when subjected to extreme heat or lots of rpms, over 6000 rpm. A properly designed water cooled engine running 6000 rpm and below doesnt need these benefits of synthetics. Again just my view, but synthetic is such a marketing ploy these days, even to the point of some calling the oil synthetic when in reality the base stock wasnt but legally could use the name because a man made introduced component was added. To me synthetic has become the new "teflon" of the oil industry. I do miss the old dura-lube commericials where the "Nascar driver" said his oil light kept gettin brighter and brighter. Then there was the idiot in a lab coat running a water hose over an old idling in-line 6 engine with the valve cover removed!
