LSU just didn't prepare to win: A letter to the editor
Published: Saturday, January 14, 2012, 5:56 AM
I don't know whether to talk about the depression, LSU or both (so I'll begin with LSU). I'm one of those die-hard LSU fans. I'm that crazy and exciting tailgater. I'm that person who wastes time memorizing the names of all the LSU players. I'm that nut case who celebrates by jumping off the walls when my team wins. But Monday night this wasn't the case.
LSU, after a perfect regular season, lost to a team they had beaten earlier this year. And for all of you who say "They should have put Lee in!" or "Les Miles can't coach!," you guys are wrong. You see, the reason is much simpler than that. The reason is that we just didn't prepare to win a BCS Championship. Teams don't win because they are "LSU." Teams win because they prepare to win big games.
And as we all have realized, and as much as I hate to say it, Bama prepared for a game as big as this one. Bama knew its opponent better than its opponent knew itself.
The look on my face isn't simply because LSU lost. It's because I believed that my team knew how to prepare -- that my team would lose blood, sweat and tears to win a game. I was wrong.
So no, I am not mad because LSU lost. I'm mad because a team we all thought was the best in the nation didn't prepare for victory. This is the reason for the tears that were shed. This is the reason for the late night thinking about what happened. This is the reason we are now considered No. 2.
