My wife and I will be in that area next Monday. Are there any bad areas to avoid? What are a couple of good eating places around? We are coming to Christmas shop for a couple of days and just to get away. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks-Eddie

Gonzales is good area. Where are y'all staying? Tanger Outlet Mall and Cabelas are across the street from each other and easy acess to Baton Rouge.
I'd avoid that whole area Ed!
Roger-don't know yet. We usually stay at a Holiday Inn but it was booked up in Gonzales. So not sure if we are going to stay in B.R. or maybe the Best Western in Gonzales. Is it OK?
P.S.-it's too late to avoid it. My wife has made up her mind-lol.
would try to get to either Hilltop Inn on the Diversion or Hymel's on the river for some good seafood. Both about 20 minutes or so from Tanger. Also, if you want something a little different go to the Grapevine Rest. in Donaldsonville. One of the best places in the area if you want something other than fried seafood. Reasonable prices too. About 30 minutes from Tanger and I think there is an Avenue stroll this weekend so there is a nice antique store that should be open too

don't know bout the hill top, but I would say Hymel's is decent in my opinion. but The Grapevine is a excellent choice! Also don't forget bout DJ's on Hwy.20 jc. I was quite surprise with the menu and the service. I heard that they made some changes as of late. So I don't know if it was for the good or the bad.
Oh! Don't forget about Sno's.

My wife and I love the Bravo/Brio Chains, there is a Bravo here that is almost Brio status. Zea's is another place we like.
JC-haven't eaten at Hymel's since 1979. It would be good to go back there after all these years. Thanks guys for your replies. We are looking forward to coming down. When I first quit college I worked on a construction site on the River Road just past Hymel's and other than passing thru a few times have not been to Gonzales for years. Wish we had more time to stay than just a couple of days, but work won't allow it for now. Thanks again and would welcome anymore thoughts. Eddie
Plenty of places to stay right by Cabelas and Tangers, with several new hotels.
The holiday inn is now Clarion. Been remodeled and resonably priced. Also Mike Andersons in is it now. Not the best, but we enjoy it when we go that way.

I would stay at Hampton Inn suites or the new suite place(don't remember the name). Both are next to Cabela's. These are the two newest hotels until Holiday Inn Express is open. If you haven't been in the area in a while, you will be surprised with the way the land has changed.
