    F250 Thermostat replacement

Is there a site where I can get instructions or a video on how to replace the thermostats on a F250 Yamaha outboard?

    Re: F250 Thermostat replacement (TOOEXTREME)

    Look here http://www.yamaha-motor.com/ou....aspx

Two t-stats, one on cylinder 1 and the other on cylinder 2 on each side of the block. Couple of bolts, housing and gaskets to remove. You shouldn’t even have to remove the thermal switches or need any instructions. Very simple unless you don’t know witch way to turn a wrench than you maybe in trouble.

Re: F250 Thermostat replacement (Rich Z)

I was turning wrenches before you were born. I worked in a machine shop for 35 years. The parts diagram is nothing like the actual motor with wires and fuel lines around the thermostat housing. I can see the 10MM bolt heads on the thermostat housing that hold it in position. I want to know what you have to remove to get at the thermostats. It is obvious that you have never replaced the thermostats on a F250 Yamaha.

Call a real good Yamaha mechanic. NOT a hard nose or a big A** hole but one that don't mind helping someone out. Chris at Grammer Marine in Vance, AL is a good one to call but just hard to get to the phone because he stays busy.

    Re: F250 Thermostat replacement (kk4iz)

Thanks for the reply. I finally smarten up and ordered a 2007 Yamaha 225hp Outboard Service Manual CD off of E-Bay. I think I have other issues with the F225 3.2L motor, I only have about 102 HRS. on the motor and it is making oil like a SHO motor. I was told by one dealer that the thermostats may be not letting the motor come up to full operating temperature and thus the motor is injecting more fuel to try to bring up the operating temperature. I am going to replace the water pump this weekend and I have a set of thermostats on order that should be in some time next week. I run the motor in saltwater and have noticed that there has been a lot of deposits on my stainless steel prop so this may be causing my thermostats to stick open. Thanks again.

    Re: F250 Thermostat replacement (TOOEXTREME)

Hope you have not switched to synthetic oil yet because it takes about 200 hrs on the motor before it's broke in. The boat my son got from me had a F150 and it did not stop making oil tile then. Just talk to him to night about it. He said you have to run it hard to really break it in. The temp alarm is set to go off at 160 so don't let anyone try to put a thermostats over 140 in. The F series motors are great and tuff motors. After he got his F150 broke in he put Amsoil marine oil in now without any problems. The mechanic at Grammer Marine was a big help to me and him about the oil making on the F150 even tho we bought the motor else where. Good luck
