We arrived at the camp Monday night and hit the water early Tuesday. The topwater bite was on bigtime and the lake was slick calm. Found a few spots and decided to leave them for tournament day. Big fish for Tuesday was right at 5 with a 4 and a few 3 pounders. 21 sac-a-lait Tuesday afternoon on brushpiles.
Wednesday we went south and had a decent topwater bite and did well on swimbaits. Nothing over 3 lbs down there. 19 sac-a-lait in the afternoon on the river channel.
Thursday we decided to hit a few more points in the area we fished Tuesday. Before daylight we boated a 5.3 and (2) over 4 on topwater. Left that point and was sure we would cash a check there friday morning. Hit 3 other points and caught 4 more money fish. Got meet Lightfoot during registration...nice to meet you bro!
Friday......here comes the wind. Got to the point and had it all to ourselves. Too good to be true, right? Threw topwater for an hour and managed 4 knotheads.Topwater bite was dead. Went to deepwater and caught a 4.45 on a wacky worm. Ok, this will get a check...usually....right? Wrong....4.62 was on the bottom for the 12-1 hour.
Went to the camp and drank a beer, got back in the boat and decided to go scout another area down south. Caught a few.
Saturday, launched south AFTER the severe thunderstorm and didn't catch anything worth a shit. Got the call from the wife that we needed to get back to Houma. Traveled home. Did not fish Sunday.
All in all, it was a blast. The topwater bite was amazing on the days it didn't count. Also came home with 80 sac fillets.![]()
Back to work tomorrow.![]()
