    2005 E-TEC 150HO or 2005 Johnson Bombardiar 175hp

Which one would you all recomend? Which is faster? i have a 2005 Tr186 with the regular 175 bombardiar on it. full tank of gas trimmed out it runs 65.3mph on GPS. That is with just me in it with a full tournment load. Does anyone think that the E-TEC 150HO would be faster and better fuel economy. If it would be faster I want to get one. How much do they run?

I would say you have more there in setup. I have the same boat, but a 2000 model with a 150 Johnson and run around those speeds with two and t load (heavy). Seen 68 with 1 person and light load. (GPS Speeds) Nothing is different in the hulls, right?

Just to point out something....the 2005 Johnson would be faster because.............

There was no E-Tec 150HO built in 2005.

What type of prop are you running, I got it to run 67.3 with just me and a half a tank but I had to lower the engine because I was turning too many RPM's

I don't know if they have the same hulls or not. I am running a 24 raker. Do you think the 25 renegade runs better and faster than the raker?

I understand that the E-Tec wasn't made in 05. I have talked to a few dealers and they have said to stick with the johnson 175. They had said that the 150 E-tec wasn't that great and the johnson is faster and all it would be is a waste of money

It's strange for a dealer to say the 150 H.O. E-tec is slower when they have not built any of them yet. Their may have been one or two pre-production motors built, but these are not shipping yet.

What is it Rusty, 2 more weeks?

I thought they had the 150's out but it was the 175's that are coming out in the Spring?

I'm not sure what prop would be better, our boat runs good with it, but most run a 23 pitch. I think our motor is abit happy on horsepower to turn a 25 pitch upto 5500 easy. Anyone know if this would have to be the case.

Thanks, I just find it strange that every other boat around with a jackplate and a 150 is turning a 23 to 5500 and I'm turning a 25 to 5500 with no jack. Wow, I can't spell.

    Re: 2005 E-TEC 150HO or 2005 Johnson Bombardiar 175hp (flathead266)

This is just my opinion but I think I am pretty close to the truth here. The HO 150 will probably run the same speed as the 175, it has a gearcase that is worth about 2 mph over the standard gearcase, the 175 doesn't have this but does have maybe 15 more hp than the HO. The HO pushes the 10% allowed and the 175 doesn't. Anyway that 15hp should be worth about 2 mph. The E-Tec is going tobe 30/40% better on fuel, which is a big deal if you fish a lot where you have to make long runs.

I personally would stay with the 175 because if you ever want to increase performance there isn't much you can do to an E-Tec motor but the 175 can push 210+ hp with a performance rebuild when its time to rebuild it.

So what do you think will run better and faster the 24 pitch or the 25?

Different boats are going to run different ways, but I loved that 25 Tempest on my 285. I liked it better than the 24 Raker.

If you can get your hands on a couple of different props to try before buying, it would be well worth your time to spend an afternoon testing props.

i have an 04 285 magnum with a 175 johnson, 6" plate. i have a 25" tempest and a 25" trophy, both will turn 5500 rpm's running 65 to 68 gps loaded light. i prefer the trophy be cause of the lift it gives. i run 3" to 3 1/2" below the pad. hope this helps a little bit.
