    Tilt/Trim Issues

My trim is making an aweful noise when I trim the motor down. When it hits the pin it stops. Any suggestions on what this might be?

I am thinking it may be the fluid. What is the recommended fluid to use on Tilt/Trim System? Someone told me Dextron transmission fluid would work. Does anyone use this?

Also, is there a good website to order gear lube, oil, ring free plus, etc. from?

    Motor is 2004 HPDI 250.

    Thanks,
    Justin B.

Put some grease on the tops of the small trim rams and I bet this stops your noise.

I think this question gets asked at least once a week
Glad there is a place where we can get answers to these questions, because it would drive me nuts to keep hearing that thing pop and grind..

It sure sounds like something is getting tore up, doesn't it? The popping is what gets me, it gives me the impression that something back there just fell off into the lake. Funny how a dab of grease fixes it.

Haven't tried this yet but when the motor hits the trim pins the noise stops. Don't see how grease on top of them will fix that, but I'm no mechanic for sure???????

Post back and let us know if that fixes your problem. I don't understand how the grease will effect the noise that is being made prior to the motor touching the trim rods.

    Re: Tilt/Trim Issues (simtech)

If it's squealing, then it's probably a little air in the system. Try trimming it all of the way up, flip down the little lever/keeper (so it doesn't fall), then SLOWLY open the fill cap. If it's air, you may hear it escape.

    Update

I have checked the fluid and it was not low. I still have an aweful screaching sound as I trim the motor down until is hits the two trim rods. My dealer told me this is just the characteristics of a Yamaha but I certainly have never heard one sound like this.
