I am not an OMC historian, so perhaps someone can fill me in.
What was the displacement of the c.1992 V4 140-HP motor? Was this half of the V-8 motor?
Also, if this V4 made 140-HP, why so much struggle with the E-TEC V4 making 130-HP?

Jim,
I can't answer your displacement question off the top of my head, but the 130 E-TEC is being built on the 60-degree V4 block, while the 140 was a 90-degree V4 block. The 90's have more displacement than the 60's.

jim 122 cubic inches on your model & yes they were essentially half of the v-8 looper.when that engine first came out it was 110 cubic inches but was bumped up to 122 after i think 3 years.
If what you've said is correct, then the displacement and horsepower look like this:
Older carburetor V4 90° 140-HP = 122 cu-in
New E-TEC V4 60° 130-HP = 105 cu-in (1726cc)
The new E-TEC V4 is about 14-percent less displacement, and cranks out 7-percent less horsepower. OK--it is running slightly "hotter" than the old engine. It seems like it should not be that hard to get that kind of performance. Apparently this 130-HP E-TEC is the engine with the somewhat exotic exhaust passage resonator tuning valves.
I'm not trying to be rude but I can't figure out what you are asking.![]()
Burning the candle at both ends.
The guess the included question is:
Where is the E-TEC 130-HP V4? It seems like it shouldn't
be that hard to get the horsepower out of a V4.
It's not like they're breaking new ground if they had
a 140-HP V4 available 15 years ago.
The horespower is there for the E-TECH. There just was not a big demand for them and thats why they held them back a little bit.

There are reasons BRP removed the 130 E-Tec from the line up, what ever they are the decision has been made, everyone that was interested in the 130 should check out the 115.
rusty i talked to to a brp rep & he said the 130 will be out but not till next yearas a 2007 my engine.he did say the 115 e-tec was a hot 115.
I have heard the same rumor but I will say this, BRP will no longer promote a motor until its ready to ship.![]()
