Lake Map/ Hot Map which one????

I just purchased a Humminbird 597 ci hd that came with a pre loaded map on it (uni-map) , well I am not at all satisfied with it. So I was looking for suggestions on what map would be the best to purchase to load into the unit. ( I live in southeast Louisiana) :

I think the problem will be that they probably will not have much information for down south in the marshes.

I know the uni-map it came with is horrible, it doesn't have any detail at all looks like your boat is running on land, so i was looking for other options......

I talked with the reps for all the electronic map companies at the classic. They can't do a real deailed map of S. Louisiana for two reasons.

#1 - there are so many canals that they could never survey them all
#2 - the land moves so it does no good to survey it.

by the time they would finish surveying everything, the maps would be obselete.

I have tried the navionics and currently use it. will check to see what it is. was told it is the best south which is probably the gold south version. Not very good. Why can't they just sinc google earth to the unit. Damn,,you can get google earth on a 50 dollar cell phone you would think for 500 to 2000 per unit they could do much better.

Chase unit is pretty cool only been out a couple of times ( trying to set my jackplate) but it looks clear and easy to operate ended up mounting it with the mount it came with to take advantage of the 360 degree swivel head so that i can spin that baby around and see it when i'm fishing the front the boat

Good, i think the depth finder is better on those hummninbird units than a lowrance but navigation wise lowrance may be better.

Re: Lake Map/ Hot Map which one???? (Hogghuntin)

I've got a Hummingbird unit with both the Navionics Hot Maps premium and the Gold charts. Neither is very good down here. It's o.k. for the Spillway but anything south of HWY. 90 is bad. My Lowrance has the Fishing Hot Spots chip and it is definately better than the Navionics for our area. Unfortunately Hummingbird is behind on the mapping and Navionics is really the only viable option I Know of.

Now, for the big reservoirs like Toledo the Navionics is the Stuff.

Because your cell phone is constantly downloading the maps.... your GPS unit doesn't have a cellular data signal!
