    LOCKOUT??

If I am running from bayou black landing to dorions landing, how long will it take me going around 60? I know there are locks you have to go through and I know that they are on the intercoastal with ALOT of traffic, how long can I expect to wait at these locks??I have never been through them before? Thanks!

It all depends on the barge traffic.....it doesnt take long to get to the locks. Just make sure you give yourself at least 1 1/2 time to get back through. I use to have the number for the locks so you can call ahead but I dont anymore. If you have the gas you can go around the locks on the way back. Its about a 20 miles extra.

Jacob, you will have to use the locks or run the Shane out to the river and come up, but that a long way.Used to be you could call the locks and see if they would have it open at the time you're coming, but if they have a barge with haz-mat the may not let you lock through with it. See if you can find a number for them would be the best advise i could give you, might keep you from waiting a long time.

Its about 15 to 20 minutes to go around but you can plan on that time. Can't plan on the locks and been screwed a couple of times with them. Easy to clock it on the way going and allow that on the way back. You can also swing through the back of the Penchant and fish your way back if you need to.

In this case it's spelled Chene, meaning beautiful oak for the live oak trees that were once on the banks of that bayou.

    Re: LOCKOUT?? (JOHN202)

There is a cable ferry between Amelia and the locks. If the ferry is not moving, it is ok to pass. When the ferry approaches the landing, it pulls on the cable that is across the Intracoastal to slow it down. The cable has been known to pop up in front of boats as they pass. A guy I worked with hit it. It came up and hit the keel of the boat just behind the eye. Slid along the bottom of the boat and caught the motor. threw them both from their seats. Had some broke ribs and other injuries.

    Re: LOCKOUT?? (fishnhunt)

Call the locks in the morning before you leave and tell them that you heading that way from the east side and will be there in 20 minutes. If there is no traffic they usually will have the east side open waiting on you. Number is 985-384-7202.
I usually always plan to run Bayou Chene on the way back. Taking Bayou Chene only adds 15 minutes to your run.
