    Lacassine pool

Anybody on here going to the pool next Tuesday? Me and a buddy are heading there for the first time. If any of you have been and have a few pointers would love to hear them.

Yea my buddy talked to a guy that lives there. He said show up about 9:00. Around 150 boats on first day at daylight! Said to chunk creature bait, creature bait, and creature bait. We gonna give em hell. Try anyway. Hope to be posting some pics next week.

Or a watermelon/red senko, senko, and a senko. Or a fluke, fluke, and a fluke.

    Re: Lacassine pool (curdog1204)

That's practically my backyard and where I mostly have time to fish. Unless you're dead set on going opening day, I'd wait. I plan on giving it a day or two to thin the crowd out, although opening weekend won't be any better.

Not really sure what the water level will be like, so most likely best to stay in the northwest portion of the pool where some of the deeper water is, although that area is likely gonna be swamped with people sight fishing for beds.

Watermelon red fluke is all I throw unless I find a big one on a bed or fishing canals. I usually fish them weightless, but stick a 16 gauge finish nail into the head (during the spawn only) so I can drop it on a bed if needed. Speed crawls in the same color have produced a lot for a lot of people I know also.

Just don't be timid about fishing the 2ft or less of water off the deeper ponds. My usual parter got a 10lb 13oz, and I got an 8lb 2oz in less than a 100ft stretch last year that was about a foot and a half deep. Neither seemed to be on beds yet.

    Good luck.

Couple years ago on opening day, They were surveying what people caught as they left. The boat in front of us had a 40+ stringer of 5 anchored by a 12lber. Wouldn't have believed it if they hadn't pulled them out for pictures with the game warden. Unfortunately those will never swim in Lacassine again.

Last year in the Harris bass classic, I heard the winning stringer was 5 around 48lbs. I can't confirm that since we fished past tournament hours, when we caught the 2 I mentioned earlier (go figure! ), but I did see the guys they say won it pull one off a bed that looked to be easily 7lbs.

Keep in mind that's how most people are catching these big ones early on, is sight fishing. So you'll have an a$$load of people just trolling around in zig-zags without a pole in their hand until they find a bed, then will anchor off till they catch the fish they saw. Let just hope most let the big gals go so they can get even bigger.

    Re: Lacassine pool (trizzle)

From what I've seen, not much gets put back. But it seems to produce big fish every year despite that.
