Trim Sensor Cam- Not smooth!! Installed new Metal one- Yamaha Vmax

I just recently changed the trim sensor cam piece is giving off hard readings......the motor will be being trimmed down but the gauge is delayed and then the needle kind of skip down......

Trimming up works better on the gauge than trimming down........is the metal trim sensor cam need to be broken in? I sprayed some WD40 on there to see if it would help and it wouldnt........
