The media has had their way with this thing. There have been three incidents on the lake. All three were 7 miles up a river into Mexico at the old church site. I just got back and fished in mexican water but did not go up rivers or creeks. The Mex army has marched through there and wiped them out as of a few weeks ago too.

Re: Loosing interest in Toledo Bend (egandy)

i've only been a couple times, but its the best place I ever fished. I fish south la marshes and its so different and challenging I love it. I do go with a group thats been going for a long time and we stay in the same area, but I bring a different perspective on fishing. They are true bank beaters and I like to use my gps to follow creeks to see what part the fish are in. Last time I was able to mark a couple gps spots that they have never fished before and we did well.

    I love it..

Its all when and where...you can hit any lake just right or just wrong...until you have a good day or two...ya never know for sure. There is a reason so many Ts are on Da Bend...
I had the same attitude towards 2-3 of the 10 lakes here...it took a couple years to have a good T or whatever...fishing something 2-3 days a year can tell you a lot or not much...

I have had a camp there for 7 years and about 4 years ago I just started catching fish. The reason it took 3 years for me to start catching fish is because I figured out the patterns and stopped running all over the lake just because I hear some guy caught a 10 pounder 10 miles from my camp. Now grant it I do still make some dry runs. But, for the most part I catch pretty good. The thing you need to set your mind to for fishing Toledo is to learn ONE area. Weather it be Turtle Beach, 1215, Housen, Indian Mounds... the lists goes on! If you look at all these coves I've named. All of them are like small lakes. All of them have creeks. All of them have humps. All of them have drop-offs. All of them have grass. And, most of all them have fish. What ever you are doing at your home lakes to catch fish, you can take that knowledge to any of these coves and catch fish. Toledo bend is very intimidating IF YOU LOOK AT IT AS A WHOLE! Next time you guys hit Toledo consentrate on one cove that is fairly close to you and FISH!

There are deep fish and there are shallow fish year round on Toledo. Just because someone caught a 10 pounder in 25' of water, doesn't mean they are all there. Fish the depth you are comfortable with and go from there. Having confidence is the key and never second-guess yourself. Go with your first instict and you will be ok.

Toledo has fish that stay shallow year round I promise. I hate beating the bank all day cause I did it for 15 yrs before I realized I wasnt fishing 90% of the water and structure, but I have a cousin that refuses to fish anywhere but the bank and he does pretty good all yr.

Yeah, I fish the Eunice Bass Club in Eunice, LA and we fish everywhere. We fish Millers Lake and the deepest spot at full pool is maybe 7 feet. You will never find that much water in Toledo that shallow. But, stick to one cove for one year and figure that cove out. The fish don't leave. Just find the pattern.
