any of you guys have a Xpress X-19? Dad needs help

my dad has been fighting with his X-19 with a 200hpdi for a year now, trying to get the motor height right. just wanted to get some measurements if anyone has the same rig.

5 mechanics tell him 5 different things, is there a master rule of thumb for motor height?

he first had troubles with it pulling real bad to the right, repalced prop from a 25 to a 23p.

think he said he was 5 inches below pad right now and he is only getting 10 psi at 5k rpm.

Start from 3 1/2 inches below the pad and go up till you lose water pressure or speed then drop down a shade. That boat should be up around 70-72. Check with Mike LOHN in the Props forum, he has setup a few and knows what to do, PROBELY GOT THE WRONG PROP>

also he was having real trouble getting over 5200 rpm's with the 25 yamaha prop, he has no problem turning the 23 now, think the water pressure thing has him puzzled, along with a few other things, because different people tell him different things.

I have an x21 and fought the steering torque for a year. I finally had a torque tab welded on my LU, I ground the weld down, smoothed it with dyna glass and repainted....It completely removed my torque and didn't slow me down. I would do it again in a heartbeat.

When I had my X-19 I had to run it above 3 1/2 inches below the pad just to get the pressure up above 10 psi. the higher I went the better the pressure. I was running a 24 TXP to get all the lift I could handle and put me right at the 6125 limiter in the warm weather and all over it in the cool weather. Boat was a limited with stock 150 vmax and ran 67 mph all day long. As far as the steering never really had an issue with hydro steering.

What size jackplate does he have on it? Does he has a transducer mounted on the rear of it?

I went from a 3 blade prop to a 4 blade on mine & it drives like a totally different boat now. I didnt think the prop would have made that much difference, but it did for mine.

I have been kind of messing with my set up also. I have a X-19 with a 6" jack plate and a 200 and I find that the higher I jack it up the less tourque steer and the better the water pressure. As far as the prop he should be turning something bigger than a 23 IMO.

Re: any of you guys have a Xpress X-19? Dad needs help (X-19)

If you look on the Xpress boards I think the majority of folks end up with 10 to 12 inches of setback to get these hulls running over 70.

The reason I asked about the transducer is because if it is mounted too low on the transom it could cause turbulent water to reach the prop and increase the amount of slip thus reducing speed. Happened to me.
