    5.6 -5.7 and rising

Was thinking of making an afternoon Sac a Lait trip today but just looked at the readings. Think I will just get some things done around the house. We should have another good run when the water starts to fall again. Lots of small bass, sacs, and perch. Hope we don't get a hurricane and push us back again. Was telling the wife we need to look at some retirement property in Alabama.

Guntersville is real nice but expensive for a poor coonass. Nice areas around lay lake and logan martin. Some others around there are nice too and less expensive. you are close enough to good medical care, shopping etc and driving distance to a lot of good water and pretty good hunting too. It will either be that area or if I decide to stay closer, Toledo Bend area. Toledo Bend is pretty cheap when you compare. I would stay where I am but I think eventually we will get pushed out by industry.

I see a lot of listings on Lay for under 300K and property listings under 100k. I will get up there later in the year and look around.

I will be up there for a week in Sept. Lay is where I would buy, due to the water level stays the same all year. Them Coosa River spottted bass are fun to catch.

how long is the drive from Lay to Guntersville and whats the best area of Lay for a quiet home? If we run across something I'll run it by you. I am not familiar at all with the area. I would love to rent a place for a year or so to get a feel for where I would like to be but that is usually not possible. Thanks

Jerry, I will IM you my buddy's phone number. He lives on Lake Logan Martin and he can help you out.

Its only an 1.5 drive to Guntersville from Lay, plus you have about 7 other lakes within an hour drive or less from Lay.

We stayed in Birmingham for Gustav, brought the bullet and didn't fish Lay Lake. Still kicking myself in the azz for that.
