    Oil Alarm 250 HPDI

I have a 250 HPDI and last nite I got a low oil alarm when I went to start it. It cleared itself after a while and I had no more problems the rest of the evening untill I went to put it on the trailer. I turned the key on after waiting on the trailer and got the alarm again. This morning I checked it at home no alarm and the ioil level on the engine reservoir was at 3/4 full. I drained the engine resivoir and alarm came on when oil hit low mark but it did not pump itself back up. I could pump it up wit the toggle switch but it pumped in very slowly. Have any of you expierienced a similar problem?

There is an inline screen under your resivor in the boat. My screen got plugged up once and I had the same problem you are having....cept it happened when I was dead center of a 30mile long 20mile wide lake.... We pulled resivor removed screen and I pulled out a fiborous matereial, like a degraded cardboard/paper quart oil bottle seal... put back together problem solved.. might want to check that, fairly easy and quick to check...

I made a mistake it was overheat alarm. I changed the impeller three days ago ran it that nite and ran it all day the next day so I doubt if it is that. Will the pop it valve make one over heat?

Yes, the valve is actually a bypass type of valve. If you have some sand or other debris on the valve it will let the water bypass the system and overheat. Does not take much either. Did you happen to notice you had lower water pressure than normal? That would also be a sign of debris on the poppet vavle.

Good news is it is a fairly easy thing to take off and clean. I think there are photos of the proceedure for the 250 on the board (but I don't remember if it was for a HPDI or a 4 stroke).

Also if you still have the old non-domed type valve, you may want to switch it out as the domed version is supposed to be less prone to debris collection. Of course you will not know until you take it out what you have...

Pop -It valve was the villain. I now have 20lb water pressure or better at wide open throttle. It never appeared to even be that dirty just a few grains of dirt unless a larger piece fell when I removed it and I missed it.

It doesn't take a lot. At least now you know how to do it next time
