    1998 ox66 questions

I have two different questions here...

1st- what is the safe range for waterpressure while running at higher speeds.

2nd- My motor will start first key turn the very first time, doesn't matter if its January or July put it in the water and she turns over and starts the first lick and purrs like a kitten. But make at run down the lake and fish, then it hardly will not start back. I have to choke it and give a little thorttle all at the same time. Then when it starts it smokes and shakes and ties to bog down, what is the deal? Drives me insane!!!!!! What do I need to do to fix it?

No less than 11 lbs water pressure... You have no choke on that motor. So you think your choking, but your not.

Sounds like Low Pressure Fuel pump/Diaphragm are leaking.Do a search on here to run a test to make sure that is your problem. Also run a search on fuel pump diaphragms for more symptoms.

I searched what you said and it sounds about right.....I just wonder after reading that if that is why I blow a powerhead 6 weeks ago!! I would have thought the dealer would have looked at those fuel pumps though.

I have NO mechanical knowledge, but could I replace the pumps without causing an explosion?

Before you start replacing pumps you should check and ensure that they are bad. Unbolt them from the block and squeeze the primer bulb until firm…don’t over squeeze! Replace only if they are leaking fuel. Sounds like you just may need to turn up the idle adjustment. The ecu advances the timing when engine is cold so it idles faster. When engine is warm timing advancement is disabled so if it idles low just turn up the idle screw until you reach about 800 rpm in neutral. Do this on the trailer while LU is in water not on a hose.
