    Boat Insurance question???

In Feburary i idled over a concrete structure and gouged the hull at the very back. About 6" long and pretty deep. Got the estimate and turned it in to State Farm the other day. Well the lady asked me if i was sure i wanted to make the claim. I said yes but why? Well she informed me that if i make this claim and a second claim with in a year, that SF would not renew my policy. Now i had the policy for 5 years and this will be my first claim. Has anyone ever had this type of issue when making a claim or two claims at that?

Yes, these insurance companies are a F'n rip off.......i was pissed when i left that office and told the wife if they drop the policy we are moving all of our policies else where.

Re: Boat Insurance question??? (fishin couillon)

I've used S F for about 20 yrs and only had one claim on by boat. They never said anything like that to me, but now days nothing would surprise me. If you have all your stuff insured with them i would let them know it and tell them you're going shopping and everyone else you know will know about how bad you were treated..

you done paid for the policy ,might as well claim it. if they drop you there are several others out there. I had state farm when i first bought my boat,600 a year changed to progressive,i have full replecement coverage, deductible goes down each year without a claim 325 a year. I i know they pa well,my buddy totaled out his boat and they gave him what he paid for it 3 years earlier minus taxes

Have you had a claim with them yet ? Thats when you will know what you got. Cheaper price is good too.

I'm a manager for SF in the Baton Rouge area. Your agent wouldn't be under me but I can tell you they are giving you the wrong information. You pay for insurance in order for us to pay you in the time of a claim. She has no way of knowing you would be cancelled if you turned in 2 claims. The decision is not up to her. I would contact your agent and if you feel like you have a claim worth turning in that is your call and your right to turn it in.

I have Progressive also. Haven't had to make a claim yet and they had a cheaper rate when we shopped around.

I'd feel the same way. Unfortunately it sounds like the Agent has done a poor job of training his staff. If I'm the agent, I'd be on her a$$ for saying that.

    Re: Boat Insurance question??? (JEB1)

I had progressive on my 21. I made a claim and the agent all but called me a liar in my own damn yard. I'll never go with progressive again because of this. I do t pay hundreds of dollars a year to finally make a claim and be made to feel like a crook for using the insurance I pay for.

He first off said I did t hit anything and said if I took it to the shop and my shaft was bent he would fix it with no problem. When my shaft wound up bent he replaced everything but still insisted that I didn't hit anything

Look I work in the insurance business and can't understand anyone's way of thinking on this. (Not you, the company)

Insurance companies are in the claims paying business. It's what you pay premiums for. To be covered in a time of need. I'd turn in any claim I had unless it was really close to the deductible or less than it.

If yall need any help on insurance things, not me trying to sell you, just questions in general on any issues with any company just ask.

I had progressive they were killing me on my payments much less i heard all the horror stories so I looked into world wide marine from the boards man let me tell you what saved me a ton of money right off the bat. I spoke with someone who had never heard of the BBC board but they had world wide marine insurance and said they have made two claims and didnt have a bit of trouble. might be worth you making the call I did and couldn't be happier.

Re: Boat Insurance question??? (Ranger Tim)

State Farm and Allstate can both kiss my ass when it comes to insurance. I hit a log doing 65 in my Xpress back in '01, ripped the motor off and tore up the boat pretty good. Made the claim, got paid, got dropped 2 weeks later.

    Allstate:
Some woman slams on her brakes on a busy 4 lane in downtown Houma...I barely nudged her bumper. I get out of my truck in my work uniform, naturally her back and neck begins to hurt. I did not receive a ticket in this incident, but evidently, she sued my insurance and I knew nothing about it.
5 months later, I go to renew my drivers license.....then I find out I haven't been insured for over 4 months. Now, I never got a call, a letter, NOTHING...and I had paid my insurance for the rest of the year...no refund either. THEN, after investigating, I had found out that my homeowner's policy was dropped also. I called and asked why. I was told I could not have homeowner's ins. without vehicle insurance.
This almost was a court battle, but I decided not to because with court costs, I would have not come out ahead on anything. I will now go to jail or walk before I use Allstate. F' them! Rant over.

I now have Progressive for boat and truck......home is with Farm Bureau.

Man that sucks you went through all that. Farm Bureau is a good company to be with. I know several local guys that work for them. Allstate can legally drop your homeowners for not having your auto with them. We can't due to certain laws but unfortunately they did it to you and you couldn't do anything about it but take your business elsewhere. I know it sucks.

Everyone has positive experiences and negative experiences with insurance for all companies. We have the highest premiums in our state over any other state for several reasons. It's a law to have it and hopefully everyone ends up with someone they get good service from.

Gun, did you have a bad experience? You are right for some companies but I know most bigger companies nowadays will forgive some claims and it actually not affect you at all. That's why no one should tell you that you'll be cancelled if you file a claim.
