    01 Vmax 150 Carb.

I recently purchased a boat that had been sitting up for about a year and a half. It was serviced but maybe not as well as it should have. I took it out for the second time and while running WOT it just bogged down and lost about 10-15 mph. I shut down checked primer bulb, and plugs and wires found no problem. When I went to take off again it took forever to get back on plane. As I was running back down the lake it decided to pick back up and run right. I dropped it off at the local shop and he checked the carbs and said the top carb had some kind of pin like or needle valve/reed that had rusted and broke. He said it was pressed in and couldnt be replaced and I would have to buy the entire Carb which he said cost about $575. Is this true? I have no clue what exactly he was talking about but it had broke off and was in the bowl. He cleaned the carb and put back together and it runs but Im sure it isnt to its fullest. It still bogs down just not as bad or as often.

    Please Help

buy a fuel pump repair kit and rebuild those things. about $30 and you might just fix your problem.

I had somethin similiar happen in a previous boat. I would be going and then all of a sudden the motor would drop rpms slinging my head forward. The power was just in and out. On the way back to the ramp it ran fine. A few weeks later i went night fishing and forgot all about the problems i had earlier. Got to the lake and it started just fine. The sound of the engine was just a little off. Anyway, i got past the no wake zone and nailed it. It didnt not want to plane out. It just didnt have the power. I idled back to the dock and started pulling plug wires till i found one that made no difference in the engine when i unplugged it. I took that plug out and visibly the plug looked fine but it was a little wet from not burning the gas. I put a good plug in that cylinder and put the suspect plug in another cylinder and it wasnt firing that cylinder either. I was able to find the right plugs, put them in and the boat ran like a champ. Maybe not your problem but just giving you something to think about.

I had stuck needle valves in mine. My problem was it wouldn't idle and would die out but once on plane it ran good. The needle valve was sticking in my middle carb and when in idle, to much gas was gettin in the carb and what wasnt was leaking out into the air breather. All needle valves changed and $400 later all is well. Dealer said they are seeing alot of this with this ethanol fuel.
